Holbrook, Arizona
This tiny Arizona town is home to Holbrook Dog Park, a small but very clean park across from one of the town’s pet-friendly accommodations – but that’s not what makes it It’s become a top spot for a dog-friendly summer road trip. Holbrook is just a short drive from Petrified Forest National Park, making it a great destination for owners who want to hike with their dogs. This is because, unlike many other national parks, dogs are allowed in remote areas, meaning you don’t have to stick to the main paths. Sanfrancisco, California
Believe it or not, there are more dogs residing in San Francisco than children. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the city is well-suited for dog-visiting travelers. Your dog is welcome to join you as you explore this hill city’s top outdoor attractions, but when they’re ready for some off-leash fun, you can head to one of multiple designated areas, such as:
- Ocean
- Baker Beach
- Lafayette Park Dog Playground
- Golden Gate Park dog training area
The city is also home to DogFest, an annual festival held every April that honors dogs and raises money for a local elementary school. You can expect plenty of vendors, food, community organizations, and events to come and see – including a dog show with prizes for the best ears – so plan ahead. in advance if you want to join next year!
Raleigh, North Carolina
Are you a pet parent who loves to drink beer? Then North Carolina should be at the top of your trip wish list! In July 2019, the governor of North Carolina signed a bill that would allow dogs (and cats!) to accompany their pet parents in any state brewery, as long as they don’t serve food . Raleigh is a great choice as there are several breweries throughout the city where you can host a beer crawl with your pet dog. When your thirst is quenched, you can visit the North Carolina Museum of Art, which features an outdoor paved walkway lined with statues and sculptures – some of which are as high as 50 feet !
Portland, Oregon
If you’re leaving the destination of your trip to see your dog, we’re pretty sure Portland will be their top choice. Not only is the city surrounded by dog-friendly hiking trails, such as the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, but there are more than 30 dog parks in the city. You read that right – more than 30! That’s more dog parks per capita than any other major city in the country. Some of its most popular ones include:

Duncan, Colorado
Duncan is not on this list as we think you should check out the town’s attractions. In fact, Duncan is technically a ghost town! What it has to it is that it is home to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It may be best known for its towering sand dunes, but you can find a wide range of landscapes, including:

- Lake in the mountains
- Meadow
- Tundra
As long as they’re still on a leash, you can bring your dog into the Sanctuary, which includes the Mosca Pass Trail, as well as key areas of the Park, including:
- Piñon Flats . Campground
- Dunes Overlook Trail
- The original path of Medano đèo Pass
Mount Desert Island, Maine
Mount Desert Island is the second largest island in the South China Sea and a popular summer destination for backpackers. The town of Bar Harbor acts as a gateway to neighboring Acadia National Park but is well worth a visit to experience its multitude of dog-friendly cafes, restaurants and breweries. Inside the park, you and your pup can explore 100 miles of land hiking trails, as well as an additional 45 miles of carriageways that include everything from woods and beaches to hiking trails.
