Tony Bellew Defends Joshua Boom: “He’s Human”
Tony Bellew took to social media to defend Anthony Joshua after his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
Before WBC The cruiser champion was knocked out by the Ukrainian in 2018 when the two met for the title in the 200-pound division.
Bellew, who is now retired, is a longtime friend of Joshua and watched his fellow Brit lose to Usyk for the second time on Saturday night at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua has returned to Usyk in a bid to reclaim the WBA Super, IBF, IBO and WBO titles he took from him in their first game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last September.
But he lost in a split decision during his first fight under new coach Robert Garcia before falling into a bizarre quirk.
Joshua has since apologized for his behaviorwatched him pick up two of Usyk’s belts – including the old Tyson Fury’s Ring Magazine title that straddles the line between the pair – and toss them before confusingly and forcibly leaving the ring accused of “stealing” Usyk’s moment, but ‘Bomber’ Bellew jumped in to protect his friend.
In one collection of tweetsBellew wrote:
“AJ should be proud of his performance tonight! It was the hardest and most hurtful thing Usyk has ever experienced in his career!
He will be back and I believe there will be a big and amazing battle in the near future.. The raw emotion shown there shows that he is human and has not forgotten his roots!
Never judge a boxer in a post-fight interview! I cannot explain to you how many emotions and fatigue are working AGAINST you! “

Bellew retired after the defeat to Usyk but doesn’t believe a similar fate awaits Joshua, who is now 24-3 (22 KOs) and has been in talks with promoter Eddie Hearn about a return before the end of the year.
“I have known AJ for a long time and he is nothing but respectful, honest and kind to everyone! He’ll be back.”
