Tokina 11-18mm f/2.8 Lens: Cheaper, Faster Alternative to Original Sony Lens?

Unlike Canon, Sony does not prohibit the manufacture and sale of certain third-party lenses for its cameras. That’s good news for Sony owners and a perfect example is here, with this new wide-angle 11-18mm f/2.8 lens released by Tokina. Life is just better with third-party lenses, right?

I recently posted about Canon’s Decision prohibits the manufacture and sale of third-party lenses for their RF mount cameras. The comments in that thread were quite adamant that Canon made the wrong decision and shot itself in the foot, although there were some readers who defended Canon’s decision, saying it was simply defending. its intellectual property. Whenever you can sit down on Canon’s decision, the analysis ultimately means that Canon users will have fewer lens choices, which could hurt Canon’s profits going forward. Fortunately for Sony users, no such ban is imminent, resulting in more third-party lenses for Sony cameras.

And that brings us to this amazing new video by Kai Wong in which he reviews the newly released video Tokina 11-18mm f/2.8 . lens. I should have told you at the outset that this lens is made for APS-C sensor cameras, which means it’s equivalent to a 16.5-27mm lens on a full frame camera. With a constant f/2.8 aperture and such a wide field of view, it’s perfect for landscape photography as well as street and architecture photography. And at $599, it’s significantly cheaper than the original Sony 10-20mm f/4 PZ WOOD and has a wider maximum aperture. It does matter, though, so check out the video and let me know what you think below.
