Amazfit continues to release new watches month by month and it is becoming more and more clear that the company wants to compete with the best products from Garmin, Coros, Polar and Suunto. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been running, walking, cycling, sleeping, and living in my new environment. Jaguar Amazfit.

Amazingly, its best feature might be the one you least expect.

Jaguar Amazfit

Mid-range smartwatch with GPS and satellite tracking, up to 14 days of battery life, and an AI-generated running coach.

Let me start with the hardware. The watch is quite light at just 32 grams and has a lovely 1.39 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels. The top right button acts as a rotating crown to scroll through the lists with the bottom right button being used to go back.

The rest of the watch hardware matches what I’ve seen from other $200 sport watches. There is a 5 ATM rating for water resistance and a battery capacity of 440mAh which is quite large. Amazfit advertises up to 14 days of battery life with typical usage. If you use specialized features like dual-band GNSS (the most accurate mode), the battery life should get you close to 26 hours.

While the Amazfit Cheetah has a sportier look than your tradition smart watchIt offers many of the same experiences as GTR 4 I tested again in 2022. And like the GTR 4, the Amazfit Cheetah syncs with the Zepp smartphone app, which is the real power of the experience.

The Zepp app can be quite overwhelming with countless screens, settings, and options that require you to spend hours exploring. But once you know where your menus and access settings are located, it’s one of the better companion apps out there.

A key addition to Cheetah’s software is the inclusion of AI Zepp Coach. similar to ChatGPT, the Zepp software will launch an interactive interface where you select the desired training plan in a chat. A training plan will then be created and self-corrected as you complete your running activities.

I haven’t completed my full training plan yet — it could take weeks, if not longer — but using artificial intelligence This is a smart way to develop the best exercise for your needs. I may find this helpful for new runners who need consistent coaching and feedback, or have questions about best practices when it comes to different types of workouts and activities. running in general.

As I mentioned before, dual-band GNSS is supported on Cheetah, along with six satellite systems. Amazfit calls its satellite technology MaxTrack, and while it works pretty well, it’s not exactly what I’ve tested from Garmin and Coros devices. The overall distance is still close, with most GPS tracking issues related to corners in wooded areas. For most people, this is perfectly acceptable.

Amazfit also includes a Runway mode, which algorithmically adjusts your GPS route to match the benchmark and the lane you’re running on, if your connection is unstable. You can also sync your running data with a variety of services, including Strava, Relive, Google Fit, and Apple Health, which I love.

Also: Top gadgets and satellite phones for reliable offline communication

For a more intense running workout, you can choose from four to six metrics to appear on different data pages as you work out. These categories include duration, distance, pace, steps, pace, altitude, heart rate, etc. I found the heart rate monitoring feature to match the results from Garmin and Coros very well, but if you want to. For the most accurate results, you can even connect the Amazfit Cheetah to an external chest strap.

Offline maps, offline music (manually loaded MP3s), and Amazon Alexa via a connected smartphone are also supported. One of my favorite Garmin features is the Morning Report, and Amazfit offers a similar experience on the watch face called Morning Update. The data available in this Morning Update includes weather, battery status, sleep, PAI, and schedule.

All in all, the Amazfit Cheetah, at $229, which reminds me of a mid-range smartphone, as long as you’re happy with how it comes out of the box, you should be happy with the watch. Sometimes things pop up that annoy me, and the smartphone app needs some work to improve for the average user. But for the price and the unique AI coaching features, this could be the best starter watch for aspiring athletes and athletes.
