The veteran acted quickly after his service dog was mysteriously shot with an arrow

Having a dog by your side is often one of the most comforting things in difficult times. Billy Morris, a disabled veteran from Alabama, understands that better than anyone. In addition to military trauma, he also had to go through a divorce. However, a support dog named Cotton is always by his side.

Cotton is a lovable Great Pyrenees that gets along well with all its neighbours. So Morris was shocked and heartbroken when his dog returned home with an arrow stuck in his body. Morris doesn’t know who injured his dog, but fortunately, he knows how to act in a stressful situation.

Shoot with arrows

One day, when Cotton returned from his usual neighborhood walk, he collapsed at Morris’s feet. Morris examined the puppy and noticed an arrow stuck in the dog’s side. Morris believes someone did this to the dog on purpose, even though Cotton was friendly.

Cotton was having trouble breathing, so Morris knew he had to act fast. He used his military training to get his dog healthy again. He carefully removed the arrow and wrapped the dog’s wound tightly. They then ran to the vet, but Morris didn’t know if the dog would make it in time.

“I was afraid I would lose my dog,” Morris said. “I actually had to breathe through my mouth to muzzle on the way to the vet clinic. He had less than 20% of his breathing capacity left. I am literally breathing for him.”

Thanks to Morris’ actions, Cotton survived to the vet, but he was in a rough condition. The vet said he had a collapsed lung.

Without Morris’ help, Cotton certainly wouldn’t have had a chance. But thanks to his quick wits, his fluffy friend was able to perform the surgery he needed. He made it through the surgery and is now on his way to recovery. His fur has to be shaved in the middle of his body and he has some scars, but he’s doing well, considering everything.

Morris couldn’t believe someone could do that to a dog. Cotton is part of the Morris family, and he can’t imagine life without him. The dog is always there and supports him even when no one else is around.

“When my son isn’t here, it’s just him and me,” Morris said. “He followed me around the ranch here. I just enjoy his company. He is part of the family.”

According to Morris, the same situation happened with one of his neighbor’s dogs. So he was determined to find the person responsible, so that no more dogs and families would have to go through this. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is currently reviewing the situation, but no arrests have been made.
