The sweetest premium gold saved from the dog meat festival
Before the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China, dozens of dogs are now safe thanks to the efforts of a rescue organization – including the most senior golden retriever.
Every June in China, thousands of innocent dogs are slaughtered because people consume dog meat to mark the summer solstice. Before they were killed for food, the dogs were kept in tiny wire cages and transported without food or water for days. Sadly, some don’t even survive the trip to the festival.
Thank you rescue team Chinese rescue dog, dozens of puppies destined for slaughter now have a fresh start in life. The group specializes in saving dogs from the meat trade as well as from abandonment cases in China. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, their job has become more difficult – but that hasn’t stopped the team from rescuing these dogs from a tragic fate.
Currently, the transportation and export of dogs from China to the US is not allowed by the Chinese customs authorities, but despite this obstacle, the rescue group has set up shop in Vancouver, Canada to bring the dogs. this to a safe place. They are currently shipping the dogs through Canada into the United States, and to date, have rescued 181 dogs through their office in Canada.
“We brought the dogs to Vancouver first to clear Canadian customs,” said Jill Stewart, president and founder of China Rescue Dogs. “We then loaded the dogs onto the truck and crossed the border in Blaine, Washington, where they cleared customs. We then drove the rescue to Seattle, where they spent the night at a pet spa before flying on an Alaskan Air flight the next day to their permanent family across the US. . “
From there, the dogs received medical care and were brought back to be raised. One of the lucky dogs to be rescued was Golden, an 8-year-old golden retriever who was intended to be slaughtered in China. He was very ill when rescuers found him, and half of his right ear was cut off to make dog ear soup.
What Golden has been through is unimaginable – but during Memorial Day Weekend, he was finally able to meet his forever family. Although still struggling with some health problems, Golden is still very happy to finally know love.
“He is on the moon, happy and in love with all the love he is receiving,” the rescue said in a press release. “The past few weeks have been the happiest of his life.”
Golden is now unharmed with his new family in Ohio, and they couldn’t be happier with him. While the job of saving these dogs is hard work, Stewart and her team say it’s all worth it when they see those tails wag for the first time after everything they’ve been through.
“Sleepless nights and days with paperwork, it’s worth it when you see their happy faces and waving goodbyes,” says Stewart. “We have made a commitment and promise to save these dogs to Yulin, and we are doing everything we can to make sure they can live out the rest of their days with love and without fear.”
