The science of drought and Drought in California

Here, I will tackle how people are being misled by a toxic mix of scientific facts framed by false stories.

Increasing CO2 undeniably redirects more energy back to the earth’s surface increasing the likelihood of global warming.

However, as easily demonstrated in this video, increasing CO2 does not cause more droughts and wildfires

Physicists have reliably determined that CO2 is increasing the global warming potential by about 2.5 watts per square meter. That science is actually solved.

However, how it will affect the earth’s climate is certainly not resolved. Depending on the sensitivity of the earth, different scientists theorize that a doubling of CO2 concentrations since the mid-1800s is likely to raise global temperatures somewhere between 1 ,5 to 4.5 degrees Celsius.

So far, CO2 has only increased by about 40%.

So to convince you that a 1 degree increase in a hundred years is dangerous and deadly, politicians like Al Gore echo the claims of alarmists like climate scientist Jim Hansen, that CO2 is generating the equivalent of 600,000 bombs dropped on Hiroshima every day.

To justify that ridiculously scary story, they simply multiplied 2.5 watts of CO2 per square meter by 500 trillion square meters of the earth’s surface area and then multiplied that result by more than 86,000. second. In the end, they ignored how much energy quickly escapes into space.

At the 2023 World Economic Forum, Al Gore desperately declared that those bombs were boiling over our oceans. He must believe that the public is either stupid or too scared to think critically.

The average temperature of the oceans on earth is about 4ºC, only 4% of the temperature is needed to boil water! Even the hottest spots on the surface of tropical oceans reach only 33% of their boiling point.

If your children or friends are scared of such lies, I suggest you do a real science experiment in your own home.

The average farmhouse has a living room of about 31 square meters. A lamp with a 100 watt bulb will provide about 3.2 W/m2 of energy to that room, slightly more than the energy currently provided by CO2.

Seal the living room off from the rest of the house and use that bulb only to heat the room during the winter. It is clear that 2.5 watts/square meter does not provide dangerous heat nor prevent dangerous colds.

The media profit from cherry picking disasters, spreading fear and misinformation.

For example, in November 2022, CNN reported that the climate crisis in California was growing and taking a heavy toll on people.

Read on, they reported the stark reality of climate change in California: record high temperatures, relentless droughts, and unprecedented wildfires.

I’ve covered wildfire misinformation in previous presentations. Just google “Understanding wildfires and how we must adapt” or “Put Senator Whitehouse outspoken on climate and wildfires”

Because climate alarmists can only claim that wildfires are getting worse because rising CO2 levels are increasing vapor pressure deficits and drying out the soil, this video focuses on the causes. causes of drought and drought.

First, using the Palmer Drought Permanence Index, an EPA time series for the 48 contiguous US states, shows a complete absence of drought trends over the past 125 years. The worst drought conditions occurred in the 1930s.

Looking at regional trends over 100 years, there have been fewer droughts in the eastern half of the United States.

The only areas with a significant tendency to dry out are California and the US Southwest, where dryness caused by conditions like La Nina has had the greatest impact.

And that drying trend should ease dramatically with another year of data when California’s 2022-2023 water year is experiencing record-high rainfall and snowfall.

Using the tree rings of Blue Oak, a moisture-sensitive tree that grows in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, precipitation variability could be extended from the 1300s. Again, however, there was no trend. long-term drying. In the 21st century, there is no abnormal rain trend or so-called meteorological drought.

Similarly, NOAA has modeled the Palmer Drought Severity Index over the past thousand years. This metric assesses agricultural drought and soil moisture, however, they identify worse droughts occurring when CO2 concentrations are much lower than they are today.

NOAA data on California’s annual precipitation since 1900 also show no trends.

So there is absolutely no correlation with the increase in greenhouse gases.

There are better correlations with the all-natural Pacific Decade Oscillation, which refers to 20–30 year transitions between El Nino-like and La Nina-like ocean conditions.

Paradoxically, the narrative that increased CO2 levels increase temperatures depends in part on increased humidity, not increased drought.

This is the proposed mechanism. First, CO2 adds about 2.5 watts of energy and has the potential to increase air temperature.

The air holds more moisture as the temperature rises.

The increased water vapor is a greenhouse gas that amplifies that increase in temperature by 1.7 times.

Despite the small change in temperature, some very impressive people, who never think critically, firmly believe that climate change is causing the extinction of the human species.

The impressive pawns of climate warnings have been misled by many so-called experts, such as those at the National Science Foundation-funded UCAR Science Education Center.

Their website says – that global warming is causing “more evaporation, so there is more water in the air, so there will be more heavy rain causing flooding.

But under the category all things are possible if you just believe in the government

Their next paragraph states the opposite dynamic as “more evaporation turns water into vapor causing drought”.

Thus, we are flooded with a religious pseudo-scientific claim that with “CO2, anything is possible”.

Our emotional and vulnerable children then become depressed believing that rising CO2 is ruining their future with both floods and droughts!

In contrast, drier and warmer weather occurs when greenhouse warming is reduced the most.

The scientific consensus shows that drier soils cause higher temperatures, as measured in California’s Death Valley or the deserts of the Sahara and the Middle East. Those deserts were created by atmospheric circulation that brought dry weather.

Wet weather is cloudy and steamy.

More clouds have a cooling effect by reducing solar heat.

More steam promotes more evaporative cooling.

But because water vapor is the most powerful greenhouse gas, absorbing 3 to 4 times more heat than CO2, water vapor raises the greenhouse temperature.

However, those combined dynamics suggest that wet weather leads to cooler temperatures.

However, dry weather brings clear skies and reduced water vapor. That increases solar heat.

Less moisture reduces the possibility of evaporative cooling further warming the surface.

Reducing water vapor reduces greenhouse warming,

Thus, dry weather increases temperatures when greenhouse warming is most reduced.

Due to the strong humidity effect, there is no need for an increase in solar radiation or a greenhouse effect to account for the increase in temperature.

First, obviously, joules are simply a measure of energy, and watts are a measure of how much energy is delivered per second.

So, to better understand joules, it takes 4.18 joules to raise one gram of water by 1 degree Celsius.

But it takes a whopping 2,257 joules to convert one gram of liquid water into steam. And despite absorbing so much energy, there is no change in temperature, which is why evaporation causes latent or “hidden” heating.

When there’s no water to evaporate, all that energy quickly increases the air and soil temperatures. It takes only 1 joule to raise 1 gram of air by 1 degree Celsius. Because that energy input can be detected as a rise in temperature, it is called sensible heat.

It is the conversion from latent heat to perceived heat that causes the increase in soil and air temperatures as the soil dries. Soil temperature can increase by 10 degrees Celsius when soil moisture is between 30% and 0%.

Air temperature is mainly governed by ground contact. Air in contact with warm surfaces rises, allowing cooler air above to sink and warm. This convection ring determines the air temperature used in climate science.

Accordingly, some scientific studies show a close relationship between air temperature and soil.

Human extraction of groundwater lowers the groundwater table and can reduce soil moisture, accelerate local wilting and prevent further transpiration, while shifting temperature control to the system. more reasonable heating.

Stress from groundwater depletion further increases the Southwest’s vulnerability to drought and leads to warming.

Urbanization further reduces soil moisture and removes cooling vegetation leading to urban heat islands. Climate scientist Dr Roy Spencer presented evidence from his research that urban heat island effects are largely indistinguishable from any theoretical CO2-induced warming.

Likewise, dog lovers concerned about the dangerous surface heat that could burn their dog’s paws issue the following warning:

When the air temperature is at 95 F,

Dry black asphalt reaches 140 F, while lighter colored cement reflects more sunlight, reaching only 125 F.

As asphalt and cement increasingly cover urbanized areas, surface temperatures rise between 35 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit higher than those with live grass.

Weather stations in the Global Historical Climate Network are increasingly urbanizing and skewing global temperatures.

Only 13.2% of all GHCN weather stations can be called truly rural, where natural warming is best measured.

In addition, airport weather stations with cement and asphalt runways and parking lots are increasingly becoming the backbone of weather stations in the climate network. So how often do alarmist scientists and click decoys falsely attribute warmer temperatures and natural droughts to increased CO2??

Democracy depends on a more well-informed public. The public does not succumb to fear and lies only open the door to bad solutions and government tyranny.
