The petrol-powered Subaru WRX STI is dead
Subaru announced late Friday that it has stopped developing internal combustion engines for WRX STI – model representing the brand’s worldwide aura. Subaru’s announcement, given below in its entirety, opens the door to an electric model.
As the automotive market continues to move towards electrification, Subaru is focused on how our future performance and sports cars will evolve to meet the needs of the changing market as well. such as regulations and requirements for greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), zero-emission vehicles (ZEV), and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE).
As part of that effort, the Subaru Group is exploring opportunities for the next-generation Subaru WRX STI, including electrification. At the same time, the next-generation internal combustion engine WRX STI will not be built on the new WRX platform.
The Subaru WRX STI and the STI brand represent the pinnacle of Subaru performance vehicles, testament to Subaru’s unique racing heritage and DNA. As we look to the future, we also look forward to incorporating the essence of the STI into our next generation of vehicles.
This is obviously bad news for Subaru fans who have their hearts set on a company-based STI. compact sport updatebut other than that, it makes people who want a better deck of cards WRX with a manual transmission in motion, like WRX GT tops the range still only in automatic mode, at least for now.
