Few words mean more to a loyal dog than ‘stay’.
In many ways, it is the ultimate test of a dog’s devotion. And deep in their love.
Luke had all of that quickly. It’s a pity for its owner.
People present at a restaurant in Moscow, Russia witnessed a German Shepherd dog being left loose on the roadside. With a simple, curt command, the owner told the dog to stay.
Then he drove off.
Owner never returned.
Meredith Andrews, a Canadian woman who heard about Luke’s plight on Facebook, told iHeartDogs: “A woman who worked there witnessed it happen.
“She tried to get him to move, but he wouldn’t.”
So she fed him for seven days, as he guarded his loneliness by the side of the road – until finally another woman, Elena Kniazeva, convinced Luke to a better life. waiting for him.
Kniazeva takes Luke to a shelter, where he meets other dogs who know a thing or two about a broken past.
And Luke soon learns a new trick: He learns to jump for joy.
In fact, Luke is so happy to be surrounded by people – and dogs – who care about him, his paws never seeming to touch the ground.
His next trick? Luke is looking to fly about 4,600 miles to a new home in Canada. The plan was to bring Luke with his friend Dennis to Toronto, Canada in May.
That is where they will begin their new life in foster care.
The plan, coordinated with rescue groups on both sides of the ocean, has yet to be implemented. Helen Antoniou, founder Cause 4 legsmade a begging online for help funding their transportation.
But if there’s one thing Luke learned the hard way, it’s patience.
And while he may not realize it yet, there are, in fact, some things worth the wait.
