Terence Crawford on the Errol Spence negotiations: “We’re “Working To Get The Job Done For All Of You”

“It’s like Omaha,” says WBO standard weightlifter Terence “Bud” Crawford. FightHub. “Just a little hotter.” The Nebraskan native was just asked about the intense heat in Dallas, where the interview was taking place. I often find that sometimes a boxer’s words and behavior outside the ring can reveal their personality and worldview in unique ways. While few would argue that Crawford isn’t a master in the ring, it’s his ability to put things into perspective, without losing nerve or control, that really elevates his game. Coming from a man who endured more than 100 degrees of heat, that probably comes as no surprise.
Of course, divisional colleague Errol Spence – a native of Dallas himself – is also a pretty cool client. That, coupled with a high-end skill set, title belt and unbeaten record, makes the showdown between the two heavyweights a long-awaited event. There has been talk about this potential demise for so long that there are now some outspoken saying a fight between Crawford and Spence won’t cool down this year – if at all. After consistently leading in the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super-weapon seven years ago, people have grown impatient with the pace of contemporary fights.
Fortunately, Crawford made it clear in no time FightHub interviews that he feels pleased about the chance to meet Spence in the ring, sooner or later. “I loved that fight,” he said. “Hopefully we can make that fight go smoothly.” Then he quickly corrected himself. “Real soon, not down the street,” he added with a smile, “and give the fans what they’re looking for.” Warriors say these things all the time, but Crawford’s softly spoken smile exudes genuine confidence. “We are working to get that job done for you,” he said.
The weight class has long been considered one of the sport’s “sexy weight classes” for a reason. Over the past fifty years, some of the most relevant, popular and lucrative fights in boxing have been in the heavyweight division, such as Ray Leonard’s two fights with Roberto Duran, along with the first classic fight. his first with Tommy Hearns. Of course, things move faster after that. As was pointed out, Leonard fought Duran twice and Hearns once over the course of a year and a half. He also fought Larry Bonds and Ayub Kalule around the same time, all before turning 26.
