Workshop: What is your all-time favorite boxing trio and why?

Ryan Walsh (Former Featherweight Champion)

Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward. Their style and attitude completely complement each other and there is never a dull moment. The ups and downs, blood and guts, those battles have it all. They won “Battle of the Year” for it. Two warriors; three great encounters.

Gary Logan (Coach)

Must be the Riddick Bowe and Evander Holyfield trio for me. Every fight goes on regardless of Bowe’s gradual decline, conditionally, over the course of their rivalry. The first fight was a classic and arguably the best heavyweight fight of my life; the second is a super battle and features the infamous “Fans”; and the third match saw both men fall to the floor and Bowe ended the series with victory.

Jordan Gill (Former European Featherweight Champion)

The immediate answer would be Gatti vs Ward, but I think the (Marco Antonio) Barrera vs (Erik) Morales trilogy is far superior. In it are two elite Mexicans who really don’t like each other, hold power in their hands and have a comprehensive style of action. It makes for a trilogy for the ages. Also, Morales is one of my favorite fighters ever.

Joe Gallagher (Coach)

There are so many great ones. People kept talking about Gatti versus Ward, or Barrera versus Morales, or Bowe versus Holyfield, or (Muhammad) Ali versus (Joe) Frazier, but also Israel Vasquez and Rafael Marquez. I know there were four fights in that competition but their first three were excellent. For the best, though, you’d probably have to say Ali versus Frazier.
