Storm season can increase gas prices at the pump
Gas prices has continued to go down bravely in recent weeks, but like all good things, it may not last forever. The average price of a gallon of gas currently stands at $3.90 nationally, according to AAA.
That’s down $1.12 since the price peaked in mid-June. It’s the same story with diesel engines. It is currently under $5, at $4.98. That’s 84 cents down from the current record level in mid-June. Unfortunately, all this good news may end sooner rather than later.
“WOMENBecause we need to monitor the weather when hurricane season comes. These storms can affect prices by disrupting oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and affecting major coastal refineries,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesman. said in a statement.
Basically, hurricane season could come and make us all nervous – price higher than it is now. If the seaside offline eliminated refiners or oil production in the Gulf of Mexico stalls, it could be very bad for the fuel supply chain. Remember, it’s a supply chain that has been reeling for months with other problems. That’s for sure.
It was a real failure for us, because AccuWeather (my alma mater) predicts 16-20 named storms this year. This is higher than the 30-year average of 14 hurricanes per year. They also predicted six to eight actual hurricanes. That means there’s a good chance one of these storms could punch us right in the jaws of gas-wise.
