In an earlier decision, the Court found that proceedings against incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was Prime Minister at the time, could not continue to enjoy the immunity to which he was granted benefit while in office.

Compensation and advice

The UN Human Rights Office urges the Government of Sri Lanka to ensure that the victim is adequately compensated and that they and their representatives are adequately advised in the disbursement of funds.

Mr. Laurence also reiterated OHCHR’s recommendations to authorities, who are encouraged to release the full results of their previous investigation into the Easter Sunday bombings.
