Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu said: “Repeated crowd incidents at Ligue 1 matches are putting the ‘survival’ of French football at stake.

Sunday’s match between Lyon and Marseille is abandoned after Dimitri Payet was thrown from the stands in the 5th minute of the match.

Payet has been calloused in one game this season.

This season, the league has been marred by mob violence, rockets and pitch invasions.

On Monday, the French League (LFP) announced Lyon would play its next match at home in Ligue 1 behind closed doors pending an investigation into Sunday’s troubles.

Lyon takes on Reims on December 1, with the results of the investigation expected to be delivered on December 8.

“They have to come to an agreement, this kind of problem is for the federation to deal with,” Maracineanu told France Info radio.

“People must understand that the survival of French football is at stake.”

France’s sports and interior ministries will meet on the matter on Tuesday.

Sunday’s match was halted for more than two hours before being officially postponed.

“It is a world where millions of euros are at stake,” added Maracineanu.

“We cannot allow a broadcaster, who has purchased the rights, to keep a conversation going for more than an hour like they did when we didn’t know if the match would continue.”
