Hitman 3 is the epilogue to IO Interactive’s homicidin’ sandbox game trilogy, but the game itself still has a lot of life in it. In the new “Year 2” trailer, IO maker Hakan Abrak has teased several new additions coming in 2022, ranging from new modes to PC-specific upgrades like ray tracing and VR support.
The actual details are quite sparse and included minisite explains that the full reveal for Year 2 content (Hitman 3 releases January 2021) won’t come early next year. For now, we know one of the new modes will be named Elusive Target Arcade, with it promising a change from the current one-chance Elusive Target challenge mode.
Abrak also hints at “new map, new story, new mode [and] new way to play”, so it looks like 2022 will see Hitman 3 at the end of some pretty powerful DLC. VR mode is like a mix of fun and fun, allowing you to use your own hands to point a knife to your head and wildly raise the roof. I don’t know if it’s for me – Hitman usually only works because 47 has the dexterity of a literal superman, not a tech journalist with a deep lapsed gym membership colorful – but it’s great that PCs are getting VR, after PS4 and PS5 versions have had all the fun.
Allowing hardware, we’re convinced PCs will also enable ray tracing – a long-promised feature for Hitman 3, albeit in vague terms – from early 2022. we can see this in the trailer, with 47’s bonce being even brighter than usual, though unfortunately (for polished floor enthusiasts Katharine) we’ll have to wait and see if the rest of the game is as sparkling.
Hitman 3’s 2-year phase officially begins on January 20, 2022. Again, it’s still unclear whether ray tracing, VR support, and Elusive Target Arcade will arrive on that specific date. but there will be more announcements (including confirmation of kit-enabled VR) before that.
