Sony Announces Bungie Will Be Its Next Acquisition
Sony announced that it will acquire Bungie, the developer behind the series Life and Halo. GameIndustry.biz Report the company will pay 3.6 billion dollars for the studio. However, both Blog PlayStation and Announcement Bungie confirmed that it would be able to operate independently and would have “full creative control and independent publishing” of Life.
Bungie CEO Pete Parsons pitched the studio’s independence in both announcements, despite the acquisition by Sony and its becoming part of the PlayStation brand. Specifically, he noted, “We are still responsible for our fate. We will continue to independently publish and develop our games. We will continue to promote a unified Bungie community. Our game will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play. “
The CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment also reiterated this. On the PlayStation Blog, he noted, “I want to make it clear to the community that Bungie will remain an independent and cross-platform studio and publisher.”
Bungie also shared an infographic following the Sony acquisition announcement, which noted that Fate 2 will not become a PlayStation exclusive. It confirms it will remain diverse.
Bungie’s most recent game is Fate 2. It’s available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia.
