The fifth generation of Sony’s line of high-resolution full-frame mirrorless cameras, Sony A7R DRESS, comes with quite a few features that make it appealing to many types of photographers. It comes with a 61-megapixel sensor, capable of recording 8K 24p or 4K 60p video, as well as a new and more versatile display. The feature that most people don’t expect, however, is the presence of an AI processor. What exactly is it and what will it do to change the way we shoot?
Like any other improvement in camera technology, the goal of the AI chip is to give us more accuracy, precision and, therefore, efficiency when shooting. There are a number of possible implications for what AI can do when channeled into the camera itself, but perhaps the most basic way it can be delivered is through focusing.
In this video from portrait and lighting expert, Jiggie Alejandrino, he shot the new Sony a7R V to demonstrate how the AI focus system works when shooting portraits. Through various tests that can be applied to a variety of shooting situations, he demonstrated what the new feature can do and how it can make it easier for photographers to take pictures.
