Sister Lou Ann Bests For the Flag in One Dreamer
Ninth over the Kentucky Downs course last year in the Music City Stakes, Ken Ramsey’s homebred Sister Lou Ann more than made amends for that poor showing with a decisive triumph in the $500,000 One Dreamer Stakes Sept. 7.
Closely tracking early leader For the Flag through fractions of :24.38, :49.90, and 1:15.55, Sister Lou Ann was shaken up turning for home and eyeballed a stubborn For the Flag all the way to the wire. Under strong encouragement from jockey Jose Ortiz, Sister Lou Ann drew clear in the final yards and struck the wire 1 1/2 lengths in front of her rival. She ran the one mile and 70 yards over a turf course rated good in a final time of 1:44.63.
For the Flag claimed runner-up honors by 1 1/4 lengths over Jubilee Bridge .
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., Sister Lou Ann became a winner on three different surfaces with her One Dreamer victory. As a 2-year-old the daughter of Frosted broke her maiden over the Tapeta surface at Gulfstream Park before later capturing the Martha Washington Stakes on the dirt at Oaklawn Park during her sophomore campaign. Switched to the turf last summer, the 4-year-old was exiting a third-place showing in an allowance optional claimer at Saratoga Race Course ahead of the One Dreamer.
Collecting $301,900 for the win, Sister Lou Ann ($10.46) improved her career earnings to $445,602.
