Sigma has completed development of the Micro Four Thirds lens

While the 4/3 microphone is still seeing growth from several companies, one manufacturer is struggling. In a recent interview, Sigma’s CEO pointed out that due to reduced demand for micro 4/3 lenses, the company will no longer be developing new options for the format, although they will. maintain its current lenses.

In an interview with photo link, Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki discussed the company’s relationship with the micro four-thirds mount. Yamaki points out that “demand for this format is dropping very sharply, and as a result, it is difficult for us to develop completely new optics for this ecosystem.”

Yamaki went on to note that current demand is largely focused on full frame, with demand for APS-C also falling along with micro 4/3, but he expects the new micro 4/3 camera to stabilize demand. bridge. However, it’s important to note that Sigma hasn’t invested as deeply in 4/3 microphone systems as other companies, so this shouldn’t necessarily be taken as a more general indication of the health of the mount. although with advanced full frame and APS-C Cameras available for less than ever, I can imagine the 4/3 microphone is feeling the pressure both from above by the larger formats and below by smartphone.
