Shane McGuigan Eyes Pulev, Whyte and Joyce rematch for Dubois
A rematch between Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois has been arranged for the future by their promoted Frank Warren and now Shane McGuigan says it could happen too.
Dubois joined McGuigan’s Gym last May six months after losing to ‘The Juggernaut’ in the only loss of his career to date. Since then, ‘Dynamite’ has returned and won three straight games against Bogdan Dinu, Joe Cusumano and Trevor Bryan. Then gave the 24-year-old the ‘regular’ belt WBA and a spot in the queue to win a world title.
Talking to Sky Sports News McGuigan says a second fight between the two Britons is definitely something to consider in the future.
“Maybe it’s a war we can go down. Maybe in the not too distant future as both are at that stage of their careers.”
“The fight is in the balance, first match, so it will also be a good fight.”
Joyce was active last weekend stop Christian Hammer in the fourth round with heavy body shots. McGuigan gave his assessment of the performance.
“Joe Joyce won and looked like his typical self.”
“He gets hit a lot, but he also overwhelms the Hammer opponent with a very fast pace, so he’s a very hard job for anyone.”
Meanwhile, McGuigan is considering the next option for Dubois, which he wants to be known to the public.
“You had [Dereck] Chisora vs [Kubrat] Pulev. I think Pulev will probably win that fight, Pulev is a great fight for someone like Daniel.
“Dillian Whyte is a great fight for Daniel. I’m not sure Dillian would want that given where he is in his career. There are easier fights for him that will earn more money and attract more attention, so a fight can be a difficult one to make.
“The fact that Dan has a ‘regular’ WBA title can help bring in the right names. So there are quite a few competitors. But I want someone to be known, someone that everyone knows, even if it’s a [Anthony Joshua] rival, even Dillian Whyte’s old rival, [where] he can try and do better than that performance. “
