The plot is thick. Now that Gervonta Davis has taken out Ryan Garcia – with one blow to the body, nothing more – everyone is looking for the Next Person. Big. Battle. The truth is, they’re going to have a pretty big fight when undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney takes on former star Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20 in Las Vegas. In short, the winner of this match is likely to face Davis in the near future. It’s not just Davis, Haney, and Lomachenko, however, who are loitering in and around lightweight, eager to be the last to stand when the dust settles. Former multidisciplinary player Shakur Stevenson is also very light. And some have called him the best of the very talented.

“They know I’m here. They just ignore me,” Stevenson said fightHub about future competitiveness. “I’m ready to fight anyone.” For a really nice kind, Stevenson is someone who has no problem telling people what he thinks, especially those who are critical. He said, “You guys don’t know anything about boxing. “The media is bad.” As far as Stevenson sees it, he’s at a point in his career where he can face top-notch competitors…and battles with big players aren’t always conclusive. Final.

“When you find higher-level appointments,” he continued, “it’s a lot harder to catch knockouts.” And Stevenson doesn’t need a knockout win to feel satisfied with his work. “All that matters is who wins at the end of the day,” he said. “They won’t remember if you beat him, they’ll remember you won.” After defeating Shuichiro Yoshino earlier this month, Stevenson seems to be aware of the fact that his future rivals can now be considered some of the best in the business.

“I have to make sure I’m at the top of my game because there are a lot of great fighters in the (lightweight) division,” he said. He then indicated that he plans to stay in lightweight for a while. “I’m a bit tall at 135,” he said. “I’m not moving up anytime soon.” Of course, that could be very good news for Stevenson, as well as very bad news for his future opponents. The man simply has to be on top of his game no matter who he may face – if he can, of course. Today, the lightweight division has several heavyweight competitions within its ranks.
