Sea-level alarm unravels as Earth’s coastlines are observed to expand since 1984 – Has it increased because of that?

Despite sea level rise, satellite data for the period 1984-2019 shows coastlines around the globe extend net +0.26 m/year.

A new study confirms what satellite data has been telling us for years: “The global coastline is programming”(Mao et al., 2021).

Developing islands, beaches, coastlines “all over the world”

This is not the first time that coastal expansion in an era of global warming and rapid sea level rise has been recorded.

A 2019 global scale analysis of 709 islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans revealed 89% are stable or growing in size, and that are not Islands larger than 10 hectares (and only 1.2% of islands larger than 5 hectares) have decreased in size since the 1980s (Duvat, 2019).

Likewise, the globe beaches are growing by 0.33 m/year since 1984 (Luijendijk et al., 2018).

In One Press Release because the a 2016 article Regarding the change in coastal land area from 1985 to 2015, scientists have acknowledged this:

“We had predicted that the coast would start to retreat due to sea level rise, but the most surprising thing was developing coasts around the worldBBC

“Accumulation is the dominant trend…all over the world”

Today, there are high-resolution satellite images from Google Earth that clearly delineate the decadent coastline change on a global scale since the 1980s.

According to Mao and colleagues, Australia’s coastlines are growing at a rate of +0.10 m/year. The coasts of Asia have been expanding +0.64 m/year. The coasts of Europe are accreting +0.45 m/year. And the African continent has been observed expanding at a rate of +0.31 m/year since 1984.

The only two continents whose coastlines have not been observed to expand in recent decades are South America, 0.00 m/year, and North America, -0.29 m/year.

Claims that dangerously rising sea levels pose an imminent global threat to coastlines have been challenged once again by real-world observational evidence.
