Stable trainers in Florida have delivered promising pasture horses to Fair Grounds & Slots in recent years for Muniz Memorial Classic Stakes (G2T), a race won in 2021 by Colonel Liam and Brick and mortar Two years ago.
This year, horses from the Sunshine State arrived early to prepare for Muniz locally — $150,000 Fair Grounds Stakes (G3T). Santin , Adhamo and Bigger trained in South Florida this winter, with Santin and Adhamo at the Palm Meadows and Largent Training Center at the Palm Beach Downs.
Chad Brown-trained Adhamo and Todd Pletcher-trained Largent were the group/classified winners, and Santin finished second in the Hollywood Derby (G1T) at Del Mar for coach Brendan Walsh during his final warm-up on November 27.
A purebred 4-year-old son of Distorted humor owned by Godolphin, Santin won the first two starts, coming with Indiana Grand and Keeneland, before rallying to slip a neck in the Hollywood Derby against 3-year-olds. His performance at the Hollywood Derby came from lesson 14.
