“Many months ago, on Christmas Eve, I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw a post about two abandoned dogs. The man who found the dogs (and we later named Lainey and Frankie) was begging for help.
He had found them in a roadside ditch from his house and didn’t know what to do with them. Even though we had plans to travel in the new year, we knew we had to help these dogs. We proceeded to bring them home and hold our breath for the next 36 hours until the vet opened—We feared Lainey would succumb to her infection.
She looks like an alien. She staggered, she couldn’t see, and she bled on our chair.
To our delight, Lainey not only survived, but thrived in our home. With the help of regular vet visits, antibiotics, ivermectin and medicated baths twice a week, her infection started to clear up.
Her hair grew back, and her spirit was revived. Then we learn who Lainey really is: a jovial girl who loves life but has never had the chance to be a puppy. It’s finally time for her to enjoy life like a real dog! And that’s exactly what she did and continues to do.
Four months passed and before we knew it, our once-smell, swollen pet dog was already looking for her forever family. The timing couldn’t be more random when one of our good friends, Kelly, was looking for a companion.
We were amazed to learn she was interested in Lainey and have been following our photos and posts about her progress. After submitting more details, photos and videos, Kelly and her husband, Larry, were mesmerized and we began arranging her adoption.
Lainey, now Luna, lives the spoiled life in Georgia with her parents and three feline siblings. We could not have asked for a better life for her.
We also wanted to take the time to say thank you to the Brown Dog Alliance in Hopkinton, MA. They answered our Christmas Eve call to get help and pay for all of her veterinary care. They rescue countless dogs and cats from the southern states each year, many with great medical needs and spare no expense. They are an incredible group of people that we are so grateful to know and work with. “
