Originally released back in September 2019 on Apple Arcade, Lego Brawls Is one Super Smash Bros. The stylish fighting game sees you take on eight-player action as one of over 200 unlockable mini Lego characters. You’ll battle it out here on a series of Lego-themed arenas in free-to-all or cooperative head-to-head battles, where two teams of four battle each other for a simple goal. It sounds fun, it looks great, and we absolutely love Lego! Unfortunately, all were disappointed by the extremely basic gameplay and stuttering performance on the Switch.
Well, as much as this is right on our busy plastic street, it’s hard to see anyone, other than very young kids, get so much time from what’s on offer here. There may be plenty of minifigures, outfits, and other puzzle pieces to unlock as you play and earn studs – something that’s sure to keep some young fans busy for quite some time – but In terms of actual scuffles it was a very shallow and disappointing experience that quickly turned into a loophole.
The battles here give you a base attack, jumping ability, and space for two specials that you’ll pick up from blocks scattered around the arenas. In the beginning, the specials are a lot of laughs and there are lots of fun things like Lego sharks, rockets, drills, lasers, horses, etc. to collect and defeat your enemies, but nothing. as long as the excitement wears off when you realize that all of these powers control the same way and don’t really add any kind of strategic depth other than simply dashing through enemies to destroy them. kill easily.
Lego Brawls battles are simply a case of pressing a button and hoping for the best when it happens and none of this is helped by the fact that there is constant stuttering in the online game when launch and it can be difficult to keep an eye on where your character is due to how far the camera wants to zoom in during tumultuous times. Not a great combination.
Featuring an eight-player local game, free-for-all, and online co-op mode to learn about a wide range of popular Lego sets, such as Ninjago, pirate, Hidden faceand Jurassic World, this game has the core of a really great side brawl, and it looks nice, but there’s no problem around the fact that it’s incredibly simple and messy, which is also a bit too expensive. funny way – and this is the real sticking point. You might be tempted to see Lego Brawls as a fun nonsense for your youngest Lego fans if it doesn’t come at a pretty ridiculous price on the Switch, especially when you consider the original price. Aside from the ability to collect minifigs and customize your character – which nothing really changes the real fight at the heart of it all – there’s very, very little here for you to dive into. It all ends up looking like a pretty poor free-to-play mobile game and one that doesn’t perform well on Nintendo hardware.
