FFVII: The first soldier to close in January 2023


Looks like the first soldiers won’t be the last. Square Enix has announced that they will be ending service for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier early 2023. The announcement was relayed via the game’s official Twitter account and the official website. In it, the development team announced that FFVII: The First Soldier scheduled to cease operations on January 11, 2023. The game first launched on November 17, 2021, ending service just over a year after launch.

The announcement also confirms that as of October 12, 2022, the ability to purchase Shinra Credits has been removed from FFVII: First solver. Until decommissioned, players with an existing supply of Shinra Credits can use them at will. On November 1, 2022, the game will stop supporting non-English languages, with text only showing up in English. The team also promises that the game will be updated more in the remaining three months before the service ends. Taking the example of another announced mobile game outage, which means Square Enix will re-run limited-time events, triggering scheduled events in the calendar (such as such as upcoming events Halloween Event), or distribute freebies and giveaways to the remaining players.

FFVII: The First Soldier is a multiplayer oriented battle royale style game with up to 75 players in a single match. It is set 18 years before the events of Final Fantasy VII. Players take on the role of candidates for Shinra’s SOLDIER program, competing in battle to prove their worth to the company. Players move around vast battlefields inspired by locations from Final Fantasy VIIThe game’s gameplay world acquires firearms, melee weapons, and materials for spells. There is also a “style” system that determines the character’s melee weapons and special skills and traits. For example, Warriors can wield a sword and lunge at enemies to quickly reach them. Dragoons gain the Classic Jump ability and wield spears. Make money from buying and withdrawing cosmetics through the gacha system. Skins are often themed FFVII characters, such as Sephiroth, the “less varied” looks of characters from the PS1 era, and cameos by characters seen in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

FFVII: The First Soldier closed on January 11, 2023. It is still available on iOS and Android.
