PS5 Beta Introduces Support for 1440p, Gamelists, etc – PlayStation.Blog

Since the launch of PS5, we’ve been listening to your feedback and working every day to bring you more community-requested features. Today, we’re rolling out a new PS5 system software beta that includes 1440p support, gameelists, and additional updates to enhance your gaming experience and make it easier to connect with friends on PS5.

While beta access is limited to invited participants in select countries*, our goal is to bring these updates to our global community by the end of the year. . If you’re selected to participate in the beta, you’ll receive an email invitation when it’s available to download today. As always, some features available during beta may not be in the final version or may see significant changes.

Here are some new features:

New personalization and game options

  • HDMI 1440p . video output
    • PS5 beta introduces support for 1440p HDMI video output, allowing players to choose additional picture settings on compatible PC monitors and TVs. **
    • If the game you’re playing supports 1440p rendering, you can experience native 1440p output on your monitor.
    • Or, if you’re playing a game with a higher native resolution like 4K, then you can benefit from improved anti-aliasing through super-sampling down to the 1440p output.
    • You can check if your HDMI device is compatible by selecting “Test 1440p Output” in the “Display and Video” option in the system settings.
  • Gambler
    • In your Game Library, you can now create a list of games, making it easier to organize your games.
    • To get started, go to [Your Collection] tab and select [Create Gamelist]. Select a game to add to your game list, then decide on a name for it.
    • You can have up to 15 game listings and 100 games per game listing. All games in the “Your Collections” tab in your Game Library can be added to the game list, including physical, digital, and streaming titles. *** You can also add the same game to multiple game lists.
  • Compare 3D and stereo sound
    • You can now hear and compare the difference between 3D and stereo sound on the same screen, then choose your preferred settings.
  • Easier access to Activities in progress
    • When resuming a game, ongoing activities are often prominently displayed at the top of the game center to help you get back to where you left off as easily and as quickly as possible.

New social features

  • Request screen sharing
    • You can now ask team members to launch Screen Sharing to see how they play. Go to the voice chat tab, select the member you want to request, then select [Request Share Screen].
  • Announcement of games that can be joined
    • When you join a party and a party member is playing a game you can join, you will get a notification now. You can join the game directly from the notification.
  • View profiles of new friends
    • When you accept a friend request in [Received] list, you can now see your new friend’s profile in [Accepted Requests].
  • Send stickers and voice messages in Game Base
    • In the Game Base tab, you can now send stickers and voice messages to your teams.

* PS5 beta access will be available to select participants in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany and France (same countries with our final system software beta) .
** Requires a 1440p compatible TV or PC monitor. Results may vary depending on the game being played. Please note: VRR on PS5 supports 1080p and 4K video output but not 1440p.
*** Streaming is only available in certain countries/regions with PlayStation Plus Premium. For details see here.
