We have been informed that Proton has changed suppliers for the four-speed automatic transmission used in Proton MC2 Story from Hyundai to Aisin. This ongoing change has not been officially announced by the automaker and has seen no changes in equipment or pricing.
No reason has been given for the change, but as we understand it is simply a supplier change for a certain part and not due to any concerns about reliability or efficiency. Therefore, Saga with new Aisin 4AT will behave very much like adults derived from Hyundai, introduced when Saga was facelifted back in 2019 and switch to update MC2 last year.
The conversion is done in May 2023, so the new Proton Saga units delivered from now on will come with the Aisin gearbox.
The MC2 Story there are four variants priced from RM34,800 to RM44,800, all powered by a 1.3-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with 95bhp and 120Nm of torque.
While some might assume this is the same 4AT used by older Perodua models (Aisin is owned by Toyota, hence related to the P2 and Daihatsu), it is not. Perodua’s 4AT is manufactured by Akashi Kikai (as well as the current D-CVT), another gearbox maker.
