Baseball fans, MLB The Show 23 is out tomorrow! With that in mind, let’s discuss modes to get you started.
New Legend*
Play with over 180 Legends from all Eras of Baseball. New legends Derek Jeter, David Wright, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, etc. join the Hall of Famers’ all-star roster and generational talent. You can combine your dream pitch with Ken Griffey Jr., Willie Mays and Babe Ruth while choosing between the greatest pitchers, such as Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson and closer, Mariano Rivera. Look for some Hidden Legends to be announced post-launch via Live Content and List Updates as you go online.

From ’22 to ’23, Studio San Diego’s Game Development Team continued to strive to reach all types of players.
- High protection properties are more important than ever. The disparity between players in the game with high and low defense attributes is more noticeable. Players with a lower Fielding attribute will react more slowly and have less jumps on club contact than players with a high Fielding attribute.
- When it comes to our throwing interface, we have a few options depending on the player’s skill and level of engagement. Our more player-friendly Interfaces, Buttons, and Analogs, based primarily on the Arm Accuracy property, have been adjusted to match MLB stats. Enhance your game with the Button Precision Meter, where you have full control over your throws.
- The pitcher’s dynamics are better than ever with a revamped competitive gaming engine. And don’t worry, Casual or Simulated fans, we’ve tweaked and balanced those styles as well.
- We’ve added over 5,000 game animations to MLB The Show 23. We’ve got hundreds of new animations ranging from: foul steals, dives, lots of hot shots in the corners, and as always, quick and efficient animations.
Face Scan
The Face Scan feature will allow you to scan your face and upload it to MLB The Show 23 using a compatible mobile device with an internet connection and a compatible console with an internet connection. Download the MLB The Show companion app from the App Store or the Google Play store. Take your selfie from the app and hit the upload button once you’ve linked the companion app to your MLB The Show account. Once you’ve loaded your face scan into the game, you can edit your hairstyle, beard, and fine-tune your skin tone. You can use your new avatar with your face in all game modes that support your created player.

Franchise mode and March through October both overhauled their casting systems and signed amateur drafts this year, but that’s not all.

Diamond Dynasty*
This year it’s all about themed teams with new Captains helping to boost your team and the return of Team Relationship programs with Diamond rewards from all 30 clubs. Also new feature in MLB The Show 23, play with your friends to earn rewards in the new ranked online Co-Op 2 vs. 2 or 3 vs. 3.** Combine your best player items from your Diamond Dynasty inventory and level up to unlock rewards.
New features added in Diamond Dynasty:
- World Classic Baseball Uniforms and 100+ players to earn at launch
- Sets and Seasons mean you’ll always make progress for 95-99 OVR players in the XP reward path, team relationships, and specials.
- Mini Seasons 2.0 with rotating themes, rewards and seven new CPU-controlled stadiums

MLB The Show 23 gives Storylines a new game experience to celebrate The Negro Leagues
We couldn’t be happier to finally introduce League of Blacks into MLB The Show. This is a special project for the San Diego Studio and we are grateful and appreciative to be partnering with the players’ families, the Black League Baseball Museum, and NLBM President Bob Kendrick to bring these stories to life in a video game.
MLB The Show 23 (Storylines Season 1*) presents eight Black League Players and their stories, narrated by Bob Kendrick. With this multi-year partnership with the Black League Baseball Museum, our goals align with museums to educate, enlighten, and inspire by celebrating the rich history of of the Black League.
We couldn’t be more excited that MLB The Show 23 is coming to PlayStation.
