Power 18 Golf Leaderboard: Rory McIlroy gains strength at top, Will Zalatoris rises as 2021-22 season ends
The 2021-22 PGA Tour season has come and gone in the blink of an eye and with it many players have changed the trajectory of their careers. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler has started the season without a win to her name and, after a harsh springtime that included donning a green jacket at the 2022 Masters, has become one among the top players in the game.
The same goes for the man right behind him in the Official World Golf Rankings as Cameron Smith won not only the Players’ championship but also the 150th Open in St. Andrews. Using a blend of ironing precision and his unparalleled swing, the Australian player has forever gone down in history.
Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Sam Burns, Max Homa, Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Cantlay are all multi-time winners and each enjoys playtime they can’t reach. Ultimately, however, the man who made it to the FedEx Cup Playoffs as the No. 1 player in The Power 18 Rankings will end the season in a similar position.
Rory McIlroy was able to get ahead at the 2022 Tour Championship and track Scheffler after falling 10 strokes. In a busy year like this past – both on and off the course – it was McIlroy who rose above the rest.
Power 18 provides insights into how golfers are currently performing with the benefit of their game in recent events. It is a broader lens than simply what happened at the last tournament played but narrower than the Official World Golf Rankings, which take into account how more than 2,000 golfers performed across the entire Season.
