Photography Resolution – Photoshop Insider by Scott Kelby

I’m not talking pixels… I’m talking life resolution!

It’s #TravelTuesday and I, Dave Williams, are here as usual. I am writing to you today from Lofoten, Norway, where the weather was a little warmer than last week in Lapland but still below freezing. The problem with the slightly warmer weather is that the Northern Lights are obscured by clouds. Still, there are some epic views, like this one from last week.

I will post more pictures from mine On the North side adventure on Instagram periodically, but today is not about self-promotion, so let’s get back on track.

At the end of each year, the theme of the New Year’s Resolutions will appear. It’s a time to reflect and plan for the future. We can apply anything we want to have life-centered resolution to our photography, so consider planning to stick with our photography.

More than half of all New Year’s Resolutions fail, according to multiple sources. For this very important reason, we must ensure that we choose the right solution that we will be able to maintain and comply with. Think of it as setting an achievable goal rather than a solution, and hopefully that gets you on track. It must be specific because if we choose a resolution setting that is too vague then it is difficult to know when we have it in our sights and when we do not. In my previous life, there was an annoying acronym that could translate to this situation, and that acronym was ‘SMART.’ Our goals or resolutions should be: –

Individual

Can be measured

Can reach

Reality

There is a deadline

If we set ourselves a New Year’s Resolution that fits within this framework, we are statistically more likely to achieve it.

Perhaps your solution involves expanding your photography business or refining your portfolio. Maybe it’s all about education and growth, or maybe moving on from there, it’s about personal projects. Maybe we need a new marketing strategy, social media growth, a new website, there are countless personal and professional goals we can set for ourselves.

My New Year’s resolution this year is to start mounting lens caps on my lenses! It’s a simple habit, but it’s a bad habit I’ve gotten into and I should really start doing it! Whatever yours is (or is), I wish you the best of luck, but I will also quickly close by saying this. Luck is when preparation and opportunity meet. Basically, we make our own luck.

I hope you are all having the best time and I wish you a Happy New Year, and I’ll see you all in 2022!

Lots of love
Dave
