Home Dog With Permanent Smiles In The New Year With His New Family

Jasper, a Chihuahua crossbreed, arrived at the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California, in August with an unexplained condition that caused him to smile frequently.

He will also tilt and shake his head. The shelter has requested donations to help diagnose and treat Jasper. Thanks to generous supporters, they were able to have him examined by veterinarians at UC Davis, who discovered he had a middle ear infection and other medical problems.

“Since starting treatment for this disease, we have seen a huge improvement! We also discovered that he was born with many birth defects that could have caused his kidney and nerve problems. He now receives daily medication and a special diet to help prolong kidney function. The best part was that we were able to determine that he was in no pain at all,” Written shelter.

He will always appear smiling due to a neurological condition that covers the nerves in his face.

Jasper’s adorable smile won the hearts of the shelter’s Public Information Coordinator, Haley Waugh. She raised the sweet boy and then a few months later decided to adopt him.

“I can’t say goodbye,” Haley told CBS Sacramento.

She can’t resist helping an animal in need and has fostering nearly 100 animals by 2021. She takes in special needs animals, large and small, and helps them recover. She is my hero!

Lifesaving care. Foster homes provide dogs and cats with a safe place to rest and recuperate as they await a permanent home. It also frees up space in shelters so more animals can be saved. Contact your local shelter and see how you can help.
