Oppo’s teaser shows it’s working on a smartphone with a retractable lens camera module: Digital photography review
Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has published a teaser video of a retractable smartphone camera that pops out from the back of the phone, similar to what we’re used to seeing with many systems. Compact camera system.

Oppo doesn’t say what the additional benefit of this particular telescopic mechanism prototype is, but retractable lenses have been used in the past to provide a longer focal length range while retains its compact design when not in use. The 15-second teaser reveals that the module will have a 1/1.56-inch sensor with a 50mm-equivalent F2.4 lens, and shows that the entire slide-out mechanism is water-resistant and drop-resistant.
Oppo says the system is ‘self-developed’ and notes that we’ll find out more on December 14, when Oppo will hold its Inno World event in Shenzhen, China. This annual event started in 2019 and is used to highlight the latest gadgets and technologies developed by Oppo.
Oppo is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics, which also owns smartphone makers Vivo, OnePlus, Realme, and iQOO.
