Nauticam announces cases for Panasonic Lumix S5II and S5IIX

Nauticam is currently shipping new housing give Panasonic Lumix S5II and S5IIX. Full-frame cameras represent an important milestone for Panasonic as they use phase-detection autofocus, rather than less reliable contrast-based autofocus—and suffer much misleading—used in the company’s previous Lumix camera models. Physically identical, the two models feature a new 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and a more powerful image processor. They differ mainly in high-end video specifications, The S5IIX is also capable of RAW video output, All-Intra and ProRes recording, and recording to the included USB-C SSD.

The NA-S5II case offers all the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect from Nauticam: the controls are streamlined around the integrated grips (including the right thumbstick for AF-On), omnidirectional keyboard to navigate menus and move focus points, and integrated vacuum test and leak detection system. While support for L-mount lenses is available natively, due to limited options for underwater shooters, the case also accommodates Canon and Sigma EF-mount lenses via the Sigma MC-21 adapter EF-to-L.

Dual fiber optic baffles provide quick manual flash firing via the Nauticam Small Flash Trigger for Panasonic/Fujifilm, and there’s a large bore M24 accessory port for monitor/recorder connections Atomos Ninja V via HDMI 2.0.

Now available at retailers like BackscatterThe NA-S5II has an MSRP of $3,479.

Introducing NA-S5II

Introducing the Nauticam NA-S5II underwater case, a powerful and handy solution designed to hold the Panasonic Lumix S5 II and S5 IIX for underwater photography and videography. This case provides unlimited access to all camera functions and controls, allowing users to make full use of the camera’s capabilities while diving. Its durable construction and user-friendly features make it the ideal choice for underwater storytellers looking for a reliable and efficient underwater housing option.

PANASONIC LUMIX S5II(X) AND WHY YOU WANT TO PICTURE IT

Panasonic has a knack for developing cameras that often fill a unique niche that has earned the brand a passionate fan base globally. So where is the S5II slot for underwater enthusiasts? First and foremost, this camera delivers outstanding value for a full-frame, feature-rich platform in a compact (full-frame) body. Despite its entry-level price, it far exceeds its weight class with some impressive specs. Here’s what stands out.

Dual Original ISO

The S5II has been a good performer in low light with its 24mp Full Frame sensor, but with Dual Native ISO, a shooter can switch to a higher native ISO with less grain than usual.

State-of-the-art image stabilization

Yes, many cameras have IBIS these days, but Panasonic is in a different league. Handheld video is very smooth.

Built-in cooling fan

Many recent flagship cameras from other manufacturers have degraded video performance due to overheating. But Panasonic has always prioritized video performance and built-in cooling. Result? Unlimited recording time internally 4K in 10-bit format and 30 minutes for 6K 30p on both cameras.

Much improved phase detection AF

Not always Panasonic’s strong point, the S5II has made great strides in AF performance.

Privileges for S5IIX

“X” brings even better videos. HDMI ProRes RAW or ProRes 422 output for external recording. For top-down recording, the camera offers direct-to-SSD recording via USBC at bit rates up to 800Mbs.

Underwater Housing NAUTICAM NA-S5II

Nauticam’s tagline is “Innovation underwater,” and the company is dedicated to delivering on that promise in the industry, while helping to protect customers’ investments in existing Nauticam equipment wherever possible. The NA-S5II/X is a prime example as this underwater shell is designed to work perfectly with the Panasonic Lumix S5II and S5X. This NA-S5II gives completely unrestricted access to all of the camera’s controls, placing important controls like AF-ON right at the photographer’s fingertips.

The NA-S5II’s underwater case with a swivel case lock is now standard on their line of more compact mirrorless camera cases. With this feature, you can easily open and close the case with one hand.

Mission Control

Nauticam engineers are obsessed with usability, and the Mission Control philosophy means putting essential controls where they are needed, not limited by their location on the camera body. Placing the controls as close to the grip as possible and within easy and natural reach, users can focus on composition and timing the shot while adjusting exposure or focus without taking their eyes off from the EVF or LCD.

The NA-S5II has a thumb lever on the rear right side of the case for comfortable AF-On access without letting go of the handle. An additional lever on the rear of the NA-S5II enables focus mode switching between C/S/MF, while a multi-directional key provides the ability to navigate menus or move focus points.

Support for EF and LO lenses

Sigma’s MC-21 EF to L converter allows the use of Canon and Sigma EF-mount lenses used with the S5II/X camera. The NA-S5II housing is designed to not only house the adapter, but also to allow the use of existing focus and zoom gears for Canon’s EF-mount lenses for the Canon N120 System along with port and Canon N120 extension rings are available for these systems. Glass. As more native L-mount lenses become available, those best suited for underwater use will be added to the system. For full compatibility, you can refer to the port chart found here.

Activate the flash

For manual flash triggering, the NA-S5II is compatible with the Mini Flash Trigger (26305) which uses small LEDs to trigger external flash via the Nauticam Universal Optical Cable (26216).

The Panasonic DMW-FL70 flash is not supported in the case.

Vacuum test and leak detection system

The Nauticam leak detection and vacuum test electronics are shipped with the NA-S5II as standard equipment. Combined with an optional accessory vacuum valve M14 (25624), this monitoring system provides continuously updated information on the watertightness and safe diving status of the housing. A simple color-coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is a solid or that the shell is losing its vacuum. Leak detection is integrated in the same circuit, so if there is water ingress, an audible and visual indication will appear.

The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by changes in the outside temperature or due to the camera heating up during multi-action diving.
