North West 200 organizers promise to overcome the insurance crisis

The crisis facing the fonaCAB and Nicholl Oils North West 200 as well as the rest of motor sport in Ireland is currently facing due to the sharp increase in insurance costs for 2023.

The organizers of the North West 200, Coleraine and the District Motor Club, have worked tirelessly to relieve the pressure these extra costs create.

The club are confident they can manage the initial premium increase but with other events failing to do so, passing additional fees to the North West 200 has created an unsustainable financial burden. steady.

This week the sport’s governing body, the Irish Motor Union (UC), announced the cancellation of all motorsport events in Northern Ireland this year.

But the organizers of the NW200 didn’t give up the fight. We cannot afford to lose sight of an event that has been going on for more than 90 years and plays such an important role in the economy of the north coast.

We have been overwhelmed by the messages and offers of support we have received today, and while we understand MCUI’s (UC) decision, Coleraine Club and District Motor will continue to work on it. efforts to host the North West 200 on May 7th and 13th.

Plans are in place to welcome new competitors to the showcase day event next Tuesday, February 14. Both that event and the Meet the Stars race premiere, scheduled for October February 15th, will go ahead as planned and we will continue to keep people informed of our progress.
