Kia’s Sportage small electric SUV is yet to be confirmed for Australia


The other car-have size EV5 . concept The electric SUV was revealed a few months ago, and it is still only confirmed for a Chinese market launch at this stage.

Kia Australia Product Planning General Manager Roland Rivero said auto expert his team will take the opportunity to bring the EV5 to our market, if it becomes available.

“We have never made it a secret that nearly every product that is part of this Plan S global strategy, we want to work together,” said Mr. Rivero.

“[The EV5 is] is yet to be confirmed, but we would like to bring the EV5 to the Australian market if the opportunity arises.”

Kia has yet to reveal the production version of the EV5, but EV5 . concept was announced as part of the company’s China EV Day in March.

The EV5 will initially be released in the Chinese market later this year, with details on global availability coming “in the near future”.

Kia says the EV5 Concept gives us a glimpse of the design and aesthetic direction it intends to pursue in future electric vehicles.

Exterior follows the same design cues as EV9with ‘Digital Tiger Face’ and solid, square lines.

When asked directly how long it will be before Kia has a budget-oriented competitor like BYD Atto 3 And MG ZS EVMr. Rivero was more skeptical.

“I don’t know if we want to be in that space,” Mr Rivero said.

“At least what our EV products represent is really the higher end of our range, the brand-elevator or the halo of our range.”

“It has the effect of heightening not only the desirability of the Kia brand, but the desirability of most other products in the Kia brand range.

“I think the role of EVs right now is like an aspirational and inspirational product.

“A lot of things will drop as that range gets bigger and we have a better supply, we can look at something along those lines, something more affordable.

“It could be said that it would be equivalent to the MG… at the moment we are not considering it.”

EQUAL previous reportKia expects a total of 14 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models by 2027. One of these models is confirmed as a “low-end BEV”.

The Korean automaker now plans to sell a total of 160,000 BEVs worldwide this year, increasing to 1.2 million by 2030.
