No Man’s Sky 19th Update, Outlaws, Releases Today – PlayStation.Blog
Last month saw our first big No Man’s Sky update of 2022, the Sentinel update, and it’s been exciting to see our PlayStation community power their battle mechs and join the fight against these new threats and challenges in such great numbers.
Today, we’re excited to announce our next and 19th update! Outlaws Update Released today on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR, featuring smuggling, improved space combat, your own recruitable squadron, a new expedition and the launch of the first new spaceship for No Man’s Sky since Living Ship two years ago.
Pirates have taken over space stations throughout the universe, using them as bases to conduct smuggling operations and raids on neighboring planets and settlements. Players have a choice: join them as rebels and aid them in their nefarious activities, or confront them in the new dynamic and balanced space war.
Fortunately, you are not alone in this battle. Players can now recruit their own squadron of pilots who will join and join the fray as needed. Explore the galaxy in search of your perfect sentinels or upgrade your loyal crew from their humble beginnings into an elite unit.
At the heart of the update is an all-new, Solar-class starship equipped with sophisticated new sails. This very diverse new ship comes with unique technology and is most commonly found in systems occupied by pirates.
Furthermore, interested ship hunters will be able to find perfect versions of them without losing any of their existing ships, as the maximum number of ships has been increased from six to nine. All ships now also come with a dedicated large capacity cargo depot, perfect for keeping smuggled goods…
All this and more awaits in the Outlaws update.
Outlaw station
Outlaw systems are dangerous, lawless places where conflicts are frequent. But all of this presents an opportunity for players capable of raiding passing stars.
A new series of quests lead players towards these new rebel factions, and while there, they’ll find a specialized bounty master with all-new pirate quests; black market tech merchant with a bunch of dubious upgrades; and the opportunity to acquire valuable goods illegally elsewhere in the galaxy. Piracy-minded players can also obtain fake passports that will allow them to recover any reputational damage caused by their activities.
Sunship
No Man’s Sky’s first new spacecraft since early 2020 is a sophisticated, high-tech spacecraft. With unique solar-powered sail and engine technology, this is the vessel of choice for those looking for interstellar speed.
While all solar ships share the same sail philosophy, there is considerable diversity between the classes. Ship hunters can expect to scour the galaxy to find the perfect match to their existing fleet.
Smuggle
Illegal goods purchased in outlaw systems can be smuggled into the regulated space, where they can be sold for substantial profit. But with a smuggler’s life in danger – the Sentinels are now tracking the contraband, and discovery is only one exploration trip away.
Inventory
All players – not just smugglers – will benefit from the addition of a dedicated inventory for all airships. These high capacity slots can store large quantities of merchandise, and storage-minded players can unlock additional slots from the ship upgrade station found on all space stations.
Squadron
Players can now recruit and upgrade their own personal squadron of sentinels to aid them in ship-to-ship combat! Once a squadron capsule has been installed on your capital ship, NPC ships can be recruited by talking to their pilot. Each pilot comes with their own abilities and can be upgraded over time to improve combat.
Space battle
Space combat has been rebalanced in terms of speed and excitement. Handling has been improved; weapons with new visual effects; enemy stars have shields; and depth have been added to the weapon selection with many specialized side effects, such as slowing enemy engines or disabling the shield system.
Ship-to-ship combat is now possible in a planet’s atmosphere – watch out for pirate attacks on planet buildings, for successfully defending an outpost or settlement Residence will bring health rewards!
Flight approachability has been significantly improved with the new Auto Track mode. This option, located in the main options page, allows the player to automatically align their ship with their current target. This mode retains player input on the controls but avoids any frustration in locating and locking down enemy ships.
Our journey continues.
