Nio hits 1,000 battery swap stations, announces 500kw fast charger for Europe and China
Chinese automaker Nio on Wednesday announced the completion of its 1,000th battery replacement station. The announcement is part of Nio’s second annual Power Day rollout, where the automaker also announced an ambitious charging expansion plan.
The newest station is also the first to be powered entirely by renewable energy, including solar and hydroelectric power, Nio said in a press release. The automaker said it took just 15 months to raise from 200 operating stations to 1,000, and announced it was opening new stations in China at a rate of two stations per day.

Nio also claims to have completed over 10 million battery swaps, with a daily average of over 30,000 swaps per day. On average, a Nio EV completes a battery change at one of the stations every 2.8 seconds, the automaker claims.
Nio also continues to invest in traditional charging infrastructure. During the Power Day showcase, the automaker announced plans for the 500kw DC fast charger to be rolled out across China and Europe starting later this year, Electrek reported. Nio has cooperation with Shell for both charging and battery swapping, but it’s unclear if this more powerful hardware will be included in that partnership.

In addition, in 2024, Nio also plans to start manufacturing 800-volt battery packs designed in-house, Reuters reported.
