When New York Jets editor Zach Wilson with the second pick of 2021 NFL Draft, Jets fans expect former BYU midfield will be the second appearance of Joe Namath.

The Jets finished last in the AFC East last season with a record of 4-13 (five games behind the third-placed team Miami Dolphins).
Wilson is 33rd among NFL quarterbacks with a 69.7 passer rating (Green Bay‘S Aaron Rodgers leads the NFL at 111.9). Wilson passed 213 to 383 (55.6%) for 2,334 yards, 9 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
So why is he getting so much love for winning the MVP from bettors in season two?
Kyle Newman, public relations officer at ratechecker.comWilson said he received 31.7% of MVPs in the past seven days.
“Zach Wilson wasn’t even in the top 10 most bets. Wilson then went viral on social media due to a feud with his ex-girlfriend and ex-best friend. Dax Milne“, Newman explained. Since then, bettors have bet on Wilson to win the prize. For the past seven days, Wilson has been the most supported player on the OddsChecker MVP market.
“Pair that with recent betting that shows the Jets as the second-highest bet to win the Super Bowl and it’s clear that betting confidence in the Jets is at an all-time high.”
Caesars Sportsbook content writer Max Meyer says Wilson is being forced by the 11th most bets this month. But, young QB has recently received more MVP bets than other big-name midfielders like brave cat, Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.
BetMGM data analyst John Ewing says Wilson’s ticket rate recently increased from 0.7% to 1.3%, taking him from 23rd highest bet player to 19th to win the prize. His MVP odds have also shortened to +10000 (bet $10 to win $1,1010 total) from +15000 ($10 bet to win $1,510 total).
“BetMGM is seeing Wilson move but his odds and the number of bets on him suggest he’s not a true MVP candidate,” Ewing said.

Zach Wilson has impressed for the New York Jets ahead of this season, and the rest of the NFL is taking notice. Tony Romo said that Wilson would enter the discussion as one of the league’s top three-quarter defenders very quickly, and even said the rookie had the same potential as Patrick Mahomes.

Wilson’s MVP odds are unchanged at DraftKings Sportsbook, but he has moved from 26th to 17th in total deals and from 29th to 19th in bets. over the past week, according to a DraftKings spokesperson.
Zach Wilson Fever hasn’t quite caught on in other sportsbooks,
“We haven’t seen any movement or a lot of people betting on Wilson for MVP on our side,” said FOX Bet trader Daniel Montanari.
For some perspective on how difficult it is to win the award, Jets Hall of Fame QB Joe Namath was the MVP of the American Football League (AFL) in 1968 and 1969, throwing farther and touching the ball more (3,147/ 15 in 1968, 2,734/19 in 1969) compared to Wilson. And Namath won Super Bowl III!
“The only question that remains is whether that confidence is the result of a fleeting joke or is it real,” Newman summed up.
