Toyota Crown Hybrid Max debuts, NHTSA nixes EV sound, state charge proposal: Car News Today
The federal government has included the kibosh in its ability to make some funny sounds to warn pedestrians. US states are mapping out the pieces of a nationwide electric vehicle charging network. And the Toyota Crown Hybrid Max bowed. This and more, here Green Car Report.
Toyota has perfected its largest sedan, the Avalon, into the Crown by raising the ride height and roofline a bit and adding some SUV cues. This “reinvented” sedan is the first Toyota model to offer Hybrid Max Performance Combination SystemDirect-wheel drive with electric motor torque at the front and rear.
The federal government has rejected a proposal to give automakers more freedom with EV sound design for “quiet car” rule—As a switchable or customizable low-speed pedestrian warning.
And some US states are racing to file infrastructure plan-electric vehicle charging, by the September 30 deadline to receive funds that are among the $5 billion earmarked for a national network of stations. At the same time, states are drawing up the Alternative Fuel Corridors needed for charging stations to qualify.
