The The 18,000 square foot Amex lounge will feature views of Newark Harbor, New York and Newark Harbor as well as the Manhattan skyline, a piano room, a Jersey jazz themed bar, and a speakeasy themed cocktail lounge. Amex is also planning wellness rooms, work stations, multiple buffets and “world-class” restroom facilities.
In total, the new Terminal A will have 33 gates, with 12 more coming online throughout 2023 and beyond. At $2.7 billion, the new Terminal A represents the Port Authority’s largest single investment in New Jersey in the agency’s 101-year history.
Additionally, a general car rental facility (ConRac) and garage is in the final stages of construction with partial opening planned in the coming weeks and months.
While Terminal A will be operational in just a few weeks, there is even more good news for Newark Airport. At the end of last month, the Port Authority shared that chose a master planner responsible for developing the airport modernization plan.
Global transportation planner Arup in partnership with SOM is now tasked with realizing redevelopment ambitions. The details are unclear at the moment, but the Port Authority seems to be serious about implementing major infrastructure changes in Newark.
