Roommates, many of us go to Amazon to buy different items due to fast and cheap shipping. However, activists in New York are calling on the company to allow merchants to sell what they call racist paraphernalia. According to News 12 BX, on February 28, activists at the Crisis Action Center were outraged and demanded that the company stop selling the “White Privilege Card – Trumps Everything”. The cards are like credit cards that represent a membership valid from birth and until death.
The cards are sold in five, 10, and 15 pack variants and are labeled as gag gifts with five-star reviews. Some merchants are selling tokens. One of the Amazon reviews from seller Brand QASW says, “My husband loves using this card EVERYWHERE he goes. And EVERYONE loves it! All kinds of people. Everyone wants to know where to get them. And this always opens up the conversation about the attitude/view of the current administration. ”
The review continued, “No one believed it. America is a country of mixed people. And everyone we were involved with showing this card said the same with lots of laughs! It’s amazing for a country that is said to be racist. We haven’t run into a single person, that is. ”
Activists have also filed a complaint with the New York City Commission on Human Rights. One of the activists featured in the News 12 BX report spoke highly of the racist card. “Amazon shouldn’t be selling anything like this. They should sell black history. They say that if you buy this card you will get perks. No one is privileged in this country. We are all equal. The man also announced that they would keep fighting until the cards were no longer sold.
At this time, Amazon has not yet responded to the cards.
