360 video has opened up a lot of new creative opportunities for filmmakers even if they don’t shoot in 360. Apps that come with the new camera like Insta360’s ONE X2 video can be adjusted and cropped into compelling 2D footage, and new modes that incorporate AI are creating possibilities that weren’t available before.
In this video, 360 video creator and YouTuber Ben Claremont explore some of the recently released new features in Insta360’s Shotlab, and it’s crazy how far AI has come and what it can figure out with these effects.
Claremont demonstrates four new photos that can be used if they were taken with the Insta360 ONE X2, Insta360 ONE RSand older Insta360 ONE CHEAP: Cinelapse, Freeze Throw, Center Stage and Clone Loop.
Cinelapse takes two walking scenes, intelligently finds key elements and then stitches them together with a fast-moving motion. It’s quite complicated but can lead to some interesting effects.
Freezing throw involves throwing a camera into the air with software that detects the top of the throw to create a 360-degree still image before the footage is returned to earth. Although I don’t quite understand the concept of camera throwing, the effect is quite interesting. Throw it away, though, and you’ll make a few hundred dollars. I guess this is why Insta360 Titan not supported with this effect?
The center stage does pretty much what it says it will do, which is actively working to keep the subject framed in the shot, although it’s hard to see how this works differently from current tracking modes. yes.
The clone loop adds a new trick where if you want to clone yourself in the shot, you don’t have to stand still. The software can track the subject and copy motion from around the camera into the frame automatically. It’s a very difficult effect to edit in traditional video software.
If you’re looking to breathe new life into your old 360 camera or want to enhance your 360 movie making, these effects should definitely be worth a look.
