Not too long ago, Urban dressers debuted with its partnership with iconic ’80s brand Laura Ashley. I’ll be completely honest: It wasn’t until I showed my mom and aunt those pieces that I realized how iconic the brand is — especially for my mom and her discerning group of friends. . Immediately, my mother showed me the photo above of her and one of her best friends wearing a Laura Ashley dress to their 1984 wedding. How did I react? Of course, by searching for Laura Ashley dresses on Etsy and ordering one for yourself.
The runways always looking to the time when the festival is the ’80s, and if a return to this decade is anything like of the 90s, the rise of trends from this point on is just beginning. While the runways are definitely where I get my inspiration for thinking about the future, I’ve decided when it comes to ’80s trends, I’ll go back to the fashion queen of her day: my mom. She and my aunt are called ” Vogue sisters” in high school, so it must be worth it.
I asked her to list all the trends from the 80s that she thinks I might still be following today. Some of the styles on her list were quickly cut from mine, including headbands, colored resin beads, and a few others that I didn’t want to mention. But as for the rest of her picks, I have to say they’re pretty decent. Ahead, shop nine of the ’80s fashion trends my mom wore back today — trends that are still going great in 2022.
“Overall, shoulder pads and box shoulders are a staple of the ’80s, and I’m perfectly fine with that. The structure they make a shirt or blazer with is the look you’ve got to have. I think they’re oddly flattering, as they make your shoulders wider than your hips, which is never a bad thing.
“The jumpsuits were my favorite in the ’80s. They make dressing easy and I always feel fashionable when I wear them. I love that they make me look tall like that. Come on. Those with large shoulder pads are even more flattering.”
“When I started working in the ’80s, wearing suits and boots was a thing. To make a sturdier look more trendy, one trend was to combine head-to-toe, including including the color of your shoes. I must be wearing heels. Pumps in every color. Neutrals are not a thing.. And of course, pumps match hoses, match suits, etc. “
