Phillip Island Pre-season Test Day
For the second and final World Supersport session, conditions are still very nice here at Phillip Island. Clear skies, a breeze like never before, ambient temperatures of 22 degrees and track temperatures more than twice as high.
Unfortunately, the test may be over for Tarran Mackenzie. The new Honda has developed what sounds like end-of-life engine problems and no spare parts appear here yet.
There was a brief red flag stop after Bahattin Sofuoglu threw his MV Agusta into the street but Turk was uninjured in the fall.
There was also another red flag delay to Cape Barren Geese on the track that disrupted proceedings, the fourth of today…
Oli Bayliss tried to solve some electronics problems with his new Team D34G and it was those gremlins that ended up taking the teen to the streets at MG Hairpin during this session. That took him some valuable setup and problem-solving time as the team made the small fixes needed to get Oli back on track.
After getting back up and running though, he improved his speed to 1m34,103, to close out the opening day of the third fastest two-day test.
Nicolo Bulega of Aruba Ducati ended the day with a record of 1m33,527, surpassing Stefano Manzi of Ten Kate Yamaha by just over 2/10.
WorldSSP riders will have another session lasting 1 hour and 50 minutes starting at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a final session starting at 3:50 p.m.
