Google warns iPhone, Android users about THIS Photos app feature

Google is warning both iPhone and Android phone users about its “photo location estimate” feature, which stores sensitive data about the photos you’ve taken. How does Google detect the location in the clicked image? Google explained that your photos can save the location where the photo was taken. Your device’s camera saves your location along with the photo. Google Photos estimates your location from information like landmarks detected in your photos and locations in your other photos.

Now, a Google alert is notifying users that photo locations come from multiple locations, including Google Photos. However, it should be noted that Google has stopped using photo location to know where you’ve clicked on a particular photo or recorded a video. However, it still works when other methods are used, such as ‘estimate missing locations’.

The-Sun.com reported that while opening Google Photos app, you’ll be prompted to choose whether to keep or delete any existing estimated locations. If you choose to delete them, a warning message will appear, informing you that: “Deleting estimated photo locations based on Location History may result in permanent loss of those estimated locations. “

It’s entirely up to you to keep or remove existing locations from your device from Google Photos, depending on what you’re comfortable with. Currently, Google is giving you a choice. If you don’t choose to keep your estimated locations by May 1, 2023, Google will automatically remove them. If you don’t want to save your photo location, select delete.

If you want to remove existing locations from Google Photos on iPhone and Android devices, you can do it this way:

How to remove a location from your Google Photos

  • About you Android phonetablet or iPhone, open Google Photos.
  • Open a photo or video.
  • Tap More represented by three horizontal dots, then tap Edit.
  • Now add or select a location from your recent locations and tap Remove location.
  • You can also edit the position of multiple photos. Simply select the photo with the location you want to edit in Google Photos and tap Add to select ‘Edit location’. Here you will be able to add or choose a location for the image.
