Defense

High Fielding attributes are more important than ever. The disparity between players in games with high and low protection attributes is more noticeable. Players with lower Fielding attributes will have poorer starting transition animations on club contact much more often than those with high Fielding attributes.

When it comes to our throwing interface, we have a few options depending on the player’s skill and level of engagement. Our more player-friendly Interfaces, Buttons, and Analogs, based primarily on the Arm Accuracy property, have been adjusted to match MLB stats. Enhance your game with the Button Precision Meter where you have full control over your throws.

If using the Button Accuracy throw interface, consistent with last year’s game, the green part of the gauge (indicating the throw will be accurate to the hitter), scaling based on the attribute Arm Accuracy. However, the function of the watch has changed. Globally, the speed of the clock hands is slower than in previous years. This is intended, as it helps to facilitate the changes to come. In previous years of The Show, the gauges were consistent, meaning the green point was always in the middle. The repetition with this mechanic makes it easy for multiplayer to use. Offense

The pitcher’s dynamics are better than ever with a revamped competitive gaming engine. And don’t worry fans of Casual or Simulation, we’ve tweaked and balanced those playstyles as well.

One of the major property updates for MLBTS23, we have redefined the Clutch Properties. With the runner in the scoring position, the clutch attribute directly replaces the contact. This helps to facilitate more realism. The battle between the batter’s Contact attribute and the pitcher’s 9-innings (H/9) hits is directly replaced by the batter’s Clutch and the pitcher’s Clutch with RISP.

Two new quirks have been added to the offense. Those are Bad Ball Hitter and Table Setter. A hitter with a Bad Ball Hitter will excel at hitting pitches outside the strike zone. A hitter with a Table Setter excels without a runner on the base.

Animations

We’ve added more than 5,000 game animations to MLB The Show 23. From fouling, diving, batting, adding a variety of hot shots in the corners and always new animations for urgency performance and efficiency of the operator.

The gameplay style aims to create a unique experience for all players. Game style adjustments for Casual and Simulation continue to take place. However, the biggest style change revolves around Competitive Playstyle.

Competitive playstyle is the default for all Head-to-head games* and all Diamond Dynasty* modes. You can also access Competitive Gameplay by going to the game settings and toggling the Gameplay setting under General Difficulty.

In-game navigation button function

The rest of the navigation buttons now show live, up-to-date Statcast numbers. Right above the directional buttons now show pitcher/hitters important matches, trying to show all the factors that affect the game. This includes auto-swap key attributes and all active quirks. On the navigation buttons remains relatively consistent with previous years of MLBTS, with minor functionality updates, including the ability to bring in a heated pitcher without having to navigate back to the barn.

Update settings

The settings terminology, organization, and description have been updated to better inform players about the functionality of each game setting. There are now two new settings that allow for enhanced customization of the Before Tender screen when attacking and defending. These new settings can be found in the Display section and are intended to allow for increased control over what information is displayed on the screen before the ball is thrown. These two settings are Pitch Select Displays and Batter Controls Display.

Update additional images

The runner windows shown at the top right for the first base runner and top left for the third base runner no longer appear. The camera can now be seen in the top right running diamond during the pre-sale. The logic attached to which runner is shown in the camera results in the most viable runner showing up based on the bases currently occupied.
