Mitsubishi student concept previews car design in 2035

An Italian design school has unveiled an all-electric crossover concept in collaboration with Mitsubishi.

Via the past few yearsgraduated from Istituto Europeo Di Design partnered with an automaker to create a futuristic vehicle concept.

This year, 18 students from the Master’s Course in Transportation Design developed the Moonstone concept in collaboration with Mitsubishi and engineering sponsors Pirelli and Oz Racing Wheels.

This concept was created to provide a glimpse of what vehicle design could look like in 2035. It won’t go into production.

The Moonstone has an all-electric powertrain as well as all-wheel drive capability.

A reveal video explains the concept as being performance-oriented, but no specs are detailed.

This concept claims to also reduce environmental impact.

The two-door coupe has SUV-like ground clearance and embodies Mitsubishi’s design language with its headlamp design. There is also a fleeting resemblance to XFC concept that the car company launched at the end of last year in Ho Chi Minh City.

There is a closed grille area at the front and a geometric bumper design.

The design team said they focused on aerodynamic efficiency and that the Moonstone has significantly sculpted side lines and angular black wheel arches.

There’s a strong tech focus, with a LiDAR unit under the bonnet, digital rearview mirrors and drive-by-wire technology.

Its coupe styling offers a raked rear windshield and angled sides with an integrated spoiler.

Its back has a muscular design language with many pleated surfaces. There are also signature T-shaped taillights and large air intakes on the sides.

This concept model has a length of 4660mm, a width of 2000mm, a height of 2700mm and a wheelbase of 2700mm.

Inside the cabin, the students created a “unique and surprising interior with an interesting interaction between full and empty spaces.”

There is a small digital instrument cluster and a square steering wheel, without a center console.

The cabin is also more open because there is no A-pillar.
