Miss India 1st grader’s dam Mitole and Hot Rod Charlie was named the 2021 Kentucky Breed of the Year on April 20 at the Kentucky Purebred Breeds Association and the Kentucky Purebred Owners and Breeders awards ceremony at Keenelandwhile many level 1 winners Necessary quality was named the Kentucky Half-Blood of the Year and the 3-year-old Kentucky stallion champion.

Four certificates of merit were awarded to individuals for their contributions to the Kentucky Thoroughbred Industry. Hargus and Sandra Sexton have been honored with the Hardboot Breeders’ Award, which honors the exceptional but obscure breeders who have helped form the backbone of the industry. Alicia Hughes has been awarded the Charles W. Engelhard Award, which recognizes a member of the media for outstanding coverage of the Thoroughbred industry. The William T. Young Humanitarian Award, to distinguish an individual or organization in the Thoroughbred industry that recognizes and promotes human endeavour, was presented to the venerable Earle Mack.
The Lifetime Contribution Award recognizes Dr. Peter J. Timoney’s contributions to the practical application of science and his unwavering commitment to herd health, which helped create the Gluck Center as an institution. world-renowned research and helped make Central Kentucky the leading U.S. exporter of horses to markets on six continents.
Also receiving awards are the Kentucky Purebred Development Fund’s top earners in 2021 in five separate categories, including the two aforementioned categories for Godolphin. KTDF Man of the Year is Into Mischief . KTDF’s earner for the year is Gear Jockey . KTDF Coach of the Year is Brad Cox.
Recipients of the 2021 KTOB Kentucky Championship Award are voted for by the entire membership of the KTA/KTOB while the KTDF category leaders are tabulated using large sums won at Kentucky racetracks in 2021. KTOB Award Recipients are voted on by KTA/KTOB Board of Directors.
