After 24 tough rounds between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin, much of the boxing world is still arguing about who is the better boxer.

Although on paper Alvarez has the upper hand, after securing a decisive split and a decisive majority victory in their two sequels, the Mexican star is set to lay the final nail. into Golovkin’s coffin.

Just weeks ago, Alvarez filled his name as part of a triangle deal with promoter Eddie Hearn. On May 7, Alvarez will leave his undisputed super-middleweight throne, in a bid to claim championship glory when he takes on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. Later this year, most likely in December, Alvarez will face off against WBC cruiser belt holder Ilunga Makabu, or super middleweight contender, John Ryder.

Sandwiched between those previously mentioned competitions will be the third confrontation against Golovkin. However, first things first, both men must win their upcoming duel. Of course, Alvarez will have to face Bivol, while Golovkin, on the other side of the spectrum, will have to face his middleweight teammate, Ryota Murata.

Since the unique defeat in his career at the hands of Alvarez, Golovkin has had 3 consecutive victories. But, despite adding to his victory column, Golovkin looks nothing like his old boomer self.

In Alvarez’s case, his name regularly tops the weightiest list as a boxing lead. Since Golovkin, the 31-year-old has collected world titles in the 160, 168 and 175 pound divisions.

With both Alvarez and Golovkin engaged in back-and-forth battles for years, Mikey Garcia watched from the sidelines with amusement. In the end, while Garcia had always revered Golovkin, as their third duel drew near, he wouldn’t be careful in claiming that Golovkin had a chance to win. With the future Hall of Famer and the current IBF middleweight champion now 39 years old, Garcia believes Golovkin will fall to Alvarez in the most brutal ways.

Garcia told KO Artist Sports: “I think Canelo is going to stop GGG at this point. “It will be a good game but I think Canelo stops him.”
